Letter to the Editor – Speeding

Dear Editor,

I don’t know if you publish a “police blotter” in the Times.  If you don’t, I would like to suggest that you do.

A regular topic of conversation among the citizens of North Dundas, both at the coffee shops and on social media, is the speed with which many people drive through our small towns and villages.

There was a lot of talk about this particular topic in the last few days as word got around about a driver who was caught doing approximately 140 km/h somewhere between Morewood and Winchester on Sunday morning. Apparently, the driver lost their licence, had their car impounded and was charged with stunt driving. Was there alcohol involved? The public has a right to know.

This ridiculous behaviour is going to get somebody killed… probably already has gotten local people killed… and it HAS TO STOP.  One way of helping to curb this kind of lunacy is to publicize it. This person does not deserve to hide behind a curtain of anonymity. I’m sure that if you check with the local OPP, they will confirm that this has happened and provide some detail. Other stunt driving incidents are regularly reported in the Ottawa news media.  I don’t see why we should be any different just because we’re a rural community.
